What do we do?

We provide legal support and advice to a wide range of companies, firms, individual clients and public bodies. A number come from overseas, others have international connections both within and outside Europe. Our non-contentious activities are in Commercial, Company and Insolvency Law. We also deal with the more routine and day-to-day legal and commercial issues that arise for businesses.

In addition to advising on the structuring of businesses, we assist our clients in both formalising Agreements and resolving (or avoiding) disagreements. From the formation of a company or the establishment of a business in England or elsewhere, through its development and as it grows and continues in business, to the eventual closure or sale of the enterprise, the legal issues and requirements that arise are generally within our experience and we can offer guidance and support.

Michael Welch, in addition to the above Company and Commercial work, has also  worked on all aspects of Insolvency Law including Liquidations, Director Disqualification and Bankruptcies.  He has been a licensed Insolvency Practitioner since 1987.  Michael’s early experience as an office-holder is these days put to use in advising  office-holders, directors, shareholders and creditors
Michael speaks fluent French.

Midge Lewis has many years experience in acting for companies, public bodies, insurers, and individuals involved in commercial disputes and litigation.

Our litigation work covers a wide spectrum of business life. We have particular expertise and experience in the fields of commercial contract, construction, professional negligence and aspects of tax as well as in more general commercial disputes.

Should an acceptable settlement prove elusive and dispute resolution options offer an inappropriate or unsatisfactory solution, we can provide clients with the benefit of our expertise in conducting litigation in the High Court including in the specialist Companies Court and  the Technology and Construction Court.

Although not part of the mainstream of the practice, some aspects of employment, trust and tax law are also covered, often as an offshoot of the rest of our work.
As a specialised practice, we do not deal with Conveyancing, Criminal or Family Law nor do we undertake Legal Aid or Industrial Tribunal work.

How we do it?

Being a small practice, we have a direct and personal relationship with our clients, many of whom are of long standing. The same applies to our dealings with professional and other contacts. The practice is run on a lean and efficient basis which means that our charges can be kept to a fair level. We have all the support and facilities we need but dislike waste as much as you do. We concentrate on the work we enjoy doing and in which we claim some expertise. Where the need arises for a client to have support from another specialist, we can generally recommend a suitable colleague from our connections built up over many years.
